The Deerfield Young Warriors is a program designed to provide the opportunity for 3rd – 8th grade boys with a serious interest in basketball to participate in accelerated competition with accelerated guidance and to have the chance to become familiar with the Deerfield High School basketball program. We accomplish this objective as a member of the Northern Illinois Feeder Basketball Association (NIFBA), an organization including programs throughout the northern and near west suburbs. However, we are unique among feeder programs in that we include in our schedule games with non-feeder teams and by participation in various competitive tournaments here and in Wisconsin.
The season will last from mid-November until mid-March. Most of November and December's activities will be practice sessions. We will play approximately 25-30 games. We will also offer clinics during the fall which will feature visiting instructors. Our Young Warrior season normally concludes the season at a 2 day tournament at Concordia College just north of Milwaukee in mid-March if dates do not conflict with local school spring break and if appropriate brackets are offered in this event.
Other points of interest:
- School schedules will have priority over the Young Warriors' functions.
- Teams will generally each carry 10-12 players.
- Goals of our program include accelerated development, exposure to the high caliber of boy's basketball that is out there; and an introduction into the style of ball played at DHS. We believe this experience will be a great one for players and families alike.
